Rural education and Environment Development Center REED (which is later named from Rural Education Development Center) is a non-profit Non Governmental Organization. It is registered with District Administration office Kathmandu with the registration number 1015 / 057 and Social Welfare Council Kathmandu. It is dedicated to protection and promotion of Environment and the Education system in the rural areas. It will strive for equitable social system and opportunities for equal participation in decision making process for the betterment of the environment and for the development of the education institution and the quality education which is the need for the children of today who has to compete with those children who are educated in high technology and in a sophisticated way. REED is committed for educational development and the development of the environment from the grass root level for the weaker section and marginalized communities as inalienable right that is denied to this section. The objectives of its establishment are to endeavor hard for the attainment for quality education to the children of the rural communities of Nepal. It believes that socio-political and economic marginalizations of the communities on the basis of access to resources, opportunities and other basic facilities such as education, good environment and health are the causes for sustenance of such discriminatory system such as caste system, bonded labor and exploitation of minority and tribal communities. Hence, REED would work among these people to enable them to meet the other communities who are better off in the Education and the environmental issues in the area. And make them equal partner in decision- making process.
REED would work amongst the grass root community directly through the participation of the deprived community and the schools in their area who comprising the beneficiaries at the initial and then on national, regional and international level, to work for the cause of their development and social justice. It believes that participatory democracy- a democracy where peoples are full participants in all the aspects of the rural development irrespective of age, sex, caste, creed, religion, and ethnicity to determine their own destinies and safeguard the interest of others. It envisioned a world that is guided by principles of democracy, equality, non-discrimination, inclusion, voluntarism and prosperity of human beings all over the globe. It believes that building local, national regional and international solidarity in the field of the development of the education system and the environmental development, social justice, development and strengthening of democracy and democratic norms.
REED can play a significant part with mobilizing community at the grass roots level for the effective mechanism to overcome the present education quality and the environment of the institute, which produces youths for the future nation building. REED also gives the training to the teachers on the quality education and organizes environment and health campaigns and camps for the youths of the rural areas.
Founding Board Members of REED were actively involved in various social and Educational activities for Solukhumbu Teacher Training, Himalayan Trust, which works for the all round development of the teachers and the community. Child Right was emphasized in all sorts of trainings organized for the community and the teachers of the schools of the rural areas which worked for the cause of empowering the marginalized and deprived communities and bringing them to the main stream in terms of quality education.
The trainers of REED and the consultants and advisors are all engaged with the Himalayan Trust, Teacher training Programme which is believed as one of the model training team in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal.
